BY JAY PHILLIPS

T he Cedar Grove Saints football team won its second
straight state championship by beating Crisp County
21-14 Dec. 14 at Georgia State Stadium.
Cedar Grove’s (13-2) win over Crisp County (11-4)
marked the Saints’ second straight state championship, their
third state championship in the last four seasons and their
first state championship under first-year head coach Miguel
Patrick.
“This feels great,” Patrick said. “I couldn’t ask for a
better start to my career as a head coach.”
Patrick said senior running back Chavon Wright was
who the Saints started and finished the game with against
Greater Atlanta Christian School, and after a scoreless first
quarter, the state championship was no different.

Hundreds of toys were
sent for delivery Dec. 9 during
DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office
(DCSO) annual Toys for Tots toy
drive.
DCSO has participated in the
fundraiser for several years as
part of the United State Marine
Corps’ Toys for Tots program
whose mission is to help bring
joy and “send a message of
hope to America’s less fortunate
children.”
Hundreds of toys were sent for delivery during DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office annual Toys for Tots toy drive. Toys
were collected for nearly a week at the Walmart on Ashford Dunwoody Road in Dunwoody. Photo by Asia Ashley
Toys collected included
bikes, trucks and cars, roller
skates, dolls and other items.
“It does our heart good at the
DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office
to know that a child will wake
up happy on Christmas morning
knowing they did receive
something,” said Sheriff Melody
Maddox. “The community
stepped up and stepped in and
donated those items. We are so
appreciative of it.”
