Hoschton Municipal Court issues $11,687 in fines
Dog attack reported in Braselton
The Hoschton Municipal Court
— which handles the town’s traffic
charges stemming from the police
department — issued $11,687 in
fines at its Sept. 4 court session.
Most of the defendants were also
ordered to pay court costs, along
with their fines.
GUILTY
The following people entered
guilty pleas in the Hoschton
Municipal Court or paid their traf
fic fines:
•Jermain Allen, Cornelia, speed
ing (49 m.p.h. in a 35 m.p.h. zone),
$181 fine and 12 months of proba
tion.
•Daphney N. Bailey, Athens,
speeding (50/35), $135 fine.
•Johnny Banks, Loganville, local
traffic law violation, $110 fine
plus court costs (the charge was
reduced from failure to maintain
lane to a local ordinance violation
by the judge).
•Matthew Todd Crutchfield,
Atlanta, speeding (49/35), $181
fine, plus court cost and defen
dant must attend defensive driving
class.
•Aaron Kyle Delaigle, Homer,
speeding (49/35), $181 fine plus
court costs.
•Alice Ann Denovo, Jefferson,
speeding (49/35), $160 fine plus
court costs.
•Mary Lou Dixon, Alto, local
traffic law violation, $110 fine
plus court costs (the charge was
reduced from following too close
to a local ordinance violation).
•Adam Tyler Dunegan, Lilbum,
DUI, $1,382 fine plus court costs,
12 months of probation and 240
hours of community service; and
open container violation (the
defendant pled not guilty and the
charge was merged with the DUI
conviction by the solicitor).
•CamtuT. Duong, Lawrenceville,
speeding (49/35), $181 fine plus
court costs and the defendant must
attend defensive driving class.
•Myriame Edouard, Dacula,
speeding (49/35), $160 fine plus
court costs.
•Richard Charles Giblin,
Suwanee, window tint violation,
$65 fine plus court costs.
•Holly Elizabeth Griffith,
Winder, speeding (49/35), $181
fine plus court costs and 12 months
of probation; and failure to change
name or address on license within
60 days (the defendant pled not
guilty and the charge was dis
missed as the defendant promptly
updated the license).
•Benjamin S. Haack, Winder,
speeding (49/35), $160 fine plus
court costs.
•Lisa Kay Hannon, Gainesville,
local traffic law violation, $110
fine (the charge was reduced from
following too close to a local ordi
nance violation); and operating
brake light or signal not working
(the defendant pled not guilty and
the charge was dismissed).
•Lori A. Hutchins, Winder, local
traffic law violation, $110 fine (the
charge was reduced from follow
ing too close to a local ordinance
violation).
•Sharyea Lanecia Jackson,
Winder, speeding (53/35), $181
fine plus court costs and 12
months of probation; driving with
a suspended tag (the defendant
pled not guilty and the charge was
dismissed, due to insufficient evi
dence); and failure to change name
or address on license within 60
days, $110 fine plus court costs.
•Javier Antolin Jaimes-Ponce,
Elberton, failure to maintain lane,
$110 fine plus court costs and 12
months of probation; DUI, $945
fine plus court costs, 40 hours of
community service and the defen
dant must attend a defensive driv
ing class; driving while unlicensed
or with an expired license, $399
fine plus court costs; giving a false
name or date of birth to a police
officer, $385 fine plus court costs;
and windshield view obstructed,
$25 fine plus court costs (the fine
was suspended).

•John Christopher Mathis,
Eatonton, giving a false name,
address or date of birth to an offi
cer, $385 fine plus court costs;
open container violation, $326 fine
plus court costs; and failure to
meet tag light requirements (the
defendant pled not guilty and the
charge was dismissed following a
plea negotiation).
•Saundra Mitchell, Social Circle,
no license on person (the defendant
pled guilty but the fine was sus
pended); and driving without a tag
(the defendant pled not guilty and
the charge was dismissed, due to
insufficient evidence, as the defen
dant made a recent purchase).
•Cathleen D. Orr, Statham,
speeding (49/35), $181 fine plus
court costs.
•Dennis Michael Romanowski,
Bethlehem, failure to change name
or address on license within 60
days, $110 fine plus court costs;
and driving an unsafe or improper
ly equipped vehicle (the defendant
pled not guilty and the charge was
dismissed, following plea negotia

NOLO CONTENDERE
“Nolo contendere” is the Latin
term for “no contest,” when a
defendant doesn’t admit guilt, but
agrees not to fight the charges. The
following people entered “nolo
contendere” pleas:
•Seth Harris Bailey, Bethlehem,
speeding (57/35), $181 fine plus
court costs; and driving without a
tag (the defendant plead not guilty
and the charge was dismissed, due
to the lack of evidence).
•Cynthia Elain Stonecypher,
Braselton, speeding (52/35), the
fine was suspended; and driv
ing while license suspended or
revoked, the fine was suspended.
NOT GUILTY
The following defendants plead
ed not guilty:
•Thomas David Boyd, Hoschton,
speeding (68/35), the charge was
dismissed.
•Dustin Edward Ford, Hoschton,
failure to change name or address
on license within 60 days (the
defendant pled not guilty and the
charge was dismissed, due to insuf
ficient proof of address change).
•Arnold Lee Gandy,
Fredericktown, Ohio, driving
while license suspended or revoked
(the defendant pled not guilty and
the charge was dismissed, due to
insufficient evidence).
•Tammy Rene Samples,
Hoschton, no insurance (the defen
dant pled not guilty and the charge
was dismissed).
•Richard Frank Simmons,
Hoschton, failure to maintain lane
(the defendant pled not guilty, but
was found guilty), $110 fine plus
court costs and 12 months of pro
bation; and speeding (50/35), (the
defendant pled not guilty, but was
found guilty), $160 fine plus court
costs.
•Jacqueline Smith, Hoschton,
failure to stop at a stop sign or
yield sign (the defendant pled not
guilty and the charge was dis
missed).
TRANSFERRED
The following cases were
transferred from the Hoschton
Municipal Court to another court:
•Virgina Estella Rahman,
Hoschton, allowing an unlicensed
person to drive and driving while
unlicensed or with an expired
license (the defendant requested
a jury trial and the case has been
transferred to state court).
•Douglas Howard Scroggs,
Auburn, speeding (63/35), (the
defendant requested a jury trial
and the case has been transferred
to state court).
A Cooper Bridge Road,
Braselton, man said two dogs
attacked his dog near his resi
dence.
According to the incident
report filed at the Jackson County
Sheriff’s Office, the owner of one
of the dogs was contacted. She
said her dog is usually on a chain
and she didn’t know how he got
loose.
Other incidents reported to the
Jackson County Sheriff’s Office
last week include the following:
•trespassing at a Duck Road,
Braselton, location.
•fire at a vehicle at a Hwy. 332
location.
•property damaged at a Charlie
Cooper Road, Braselton, address.
BURGLARIES, THEFTS
Burglaries and thefts reported
to the sheriff’s office include the
following:
•several items taken from stor
age buildings at a Zion Church
Road, Braselton, address.
Piedmont CAS A, Inc. announced
recently that it received a $2,000
grant from Target in recognition
of its efforts in providing a vol
unteer to speak for every foster
child.
Annette Raymond, executive
director, stated: “We are very
excited that Target has chosen our
organization to receive this grant.
We will use the funds to train
more volunteers to speak up for
children in foster care in Jackson,
Banks and Barrow counties.”

residence.

Piedmont CASA was estab
lished in 2000 and since then has
served over 207 children in foster
care. Currently, 31 volunteers are
serving 49 children.
There are still many children
who need a CASA and don’t have
one, according to organizers. Any
