Early runoff turnout almost double of Nov. 8

A record number of Dawson County
residents have voted early in the Dec. 6
U.S. Senate runoff between Republican
Herschel Walker and incumbent
Democrat Raphael Warnock, according
to the local Board of Elections and
Registration.
On Dec. 2, the last day of local
advance voting for the senatorial run
off, 1,623 voters cast their vote at the
BOER office as of 7 p.m. that evening,
stated a Dawson County BOER
Facebook post.
Overall, 7,124 votes have been cast
in Dawson County for the 2022 general
election senatorial runoff. That repre
sents 31.96% of Dawson County active
voters, the post said.
This level of turnout was reached
within one week, whereas 41.48% of
Dawson County voters turned out for
the Nov. 8 general election over two
weeks and two Saturdays.
Put another way, about twice as
many local voters turned out on aver
age per day to vote early in the senato
rial runoff as compared to early voters
in the November general election.

Dawson s 15th annual 'Breakfast with Santa draws crowd

On Saturday Dec. 3, crowds of parents
and children dressed in their Christmas
best visited Rock Creek Park to visit with
Santa and participate in fun activities dur
ing Dawson County’s 15th annual
“Breakfast with Santa” event.
The event, which was presented by
Chick-fil-A, ran from 8 to 11 a.m. and
featured games, activities, snacks, shop
ping, a bounce house and of course an
opportunity to take photos with Santa
himself. Children at the event excitedly
participated in cookie decorating, face
painting, writing letters to Santa and mak
ing “reindeer food” and “magic Santa
dust”.

Police: Car
chase ends
in crash, fire

A Gainesville man has been accused of
fleeing local deputies and leading them on a
Nov. 30 car chase that ended
in an accident and vehicle
fire, according to Dawson
County Sheriff Jeff Johnson.
Cesar Julian Garcia, 26, is
facing a litany of charges
after being arrested for his
alleged involvement in the
car chase.

will run for her
late husband’s
state house seat

The wife of late District 7 Georgia House
Representative and former
Speaker of the House David
Ralston will run to fill her
husband’s seat after his
passing earlier in November.
Sheree Ralston has
announced she would seek
election to the 7th District of
the Georgia House of
Representatives, according
to a Nov. 30 press release.
The seat will be filled in a special election
on January 3, 2023, in time for the upcoming
legislative session.
