Fayetteville Stormwater Utility
Fee Increase Effective June 1

On May 18, Fayetteville
City Council unanimously
approved an increase in the
stormwater utility fee from
$4-37 P er equivalent res
idential unit to $6.75 per
ERU, effective June l, with
an additional five percent
increase each year for the
next five years, bringing the
rate to $8.20 per ERU in
2027.
The amendment to
stormwater service
charges/fees was presented
by Finance and Admin
istrative Services Assistant
Director Carleetha Tal-
madge, who attributed the
increase to rising costs asso
ciated with state and federal
regulations, as well as rising
costs associated with the
maintenance of the city’s
aging stormwater infras
tructure.

the rate increase, Com
munity and Economic De
velopment Coordinator
David Rast presented a re
zoning request from Tiger
Trail Development, LLC, to

PTC Recognizes Kids to Parks Day

2023 marks the 13th an
niversary of Kids to Parks
Day, and in Peachtree City,
the day was celebrated at
Drake Feld on May 20.
Families were encour
aged to spend the afternoon
at Drake Field playing
games, enjoying the out
doors, and embarking on
educational experiences,
such as a snake education
talk with local expert Jayme
Clune.
The day was first organ
ized by the National Park
Trust and is meant to em
phasize a day of outdoor ex
ploration at local, state, and
national parks and public
lands across the country.
The purpose of this day
on a national scale is to
allow for children to develop
a memorable outdoor ex
perience while also learning
about park stewardship,
outdoor recreation, STEM,
and the history the United
States and its national na
ture preserves.
Kids to Parks Day is al
ways hosted on the third
Saturday of May and repre
sentatives at the National
Park Trust encourage chil
dren and families to get out
side and create their own
adventure at local programs
and park events.

Citizens Police Academy
Fayetteville Police Department recently held a graduation for its most re
cent class of the Fayetteville Citizens Police Academy on May 11. The class
consisted of 10 sessions of instruction that included vehicle pullovers, crime
scene investigation, Kg demonstrations, patrol, criminal investigations, pol
icy, use of force, shoot/don’t shoot scenarios, gang aivareness, dispatch, fire
presentation, and more.

Runoff for House

At the conclusion of the
May 16 special called election
for the vacant seat of Georgia
House District 68 represen
tative, the stage was set for
the June 13 runoff between
Democrats Mark Baker and
Derrick Jackson.
In Fayette County, Baker
received 199 votes while
Jackson secured 497 votes,
but Fulton County ballots
raised Baker to 645 and
Jackson to 627 total.
The winning candidate
must receive at least 50 per
cent of the total votes cast in
elections other than runoffs,
according to Fayette County
Elections Director Brian Hill.
Advanced in-person vot
ing begins on Saturday, June
3, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Vot
ing will continue from Mon
day, June 5, through Friday,
June 9, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at
Fayette County Elections Of
fice, Peachtree City Library,
and Tyrone Recreation
Center.
Hill commented that the
elections office will accept
applications for absentee by
mail ballots by June 2 at
11:59 p.m. Applications can
be submitted online (scan
and email to elections-
group@fayettecountyga.gov)
, sent by mail, or submitted
in person at the Fayette
County Registration Office,
located at 140 Stonewall Ave
nue West, Suite 208, Fay
etteville, Ga. 30214.
Requests must be on a
state-approved form, accord
ing to Hill.
The Fayette County
Board of Elections will meet
on June 16, instead of its reg
ularly scheduled June 27
time slot.

along with Fayette County’s
American Legion and Vet
erans of Foreign Wars posts,
will host the 2023 Memorial
Day ceremony on Monday,
May 29, at 10 a.m. at Patriot
Park on Redwine Road in
Fayetteville.

Stubbs will be remembered
this year, and his family will
unveil a monument in his
honor.

his service with the Georgia
