National JWVA names
Dr. Wenger Woman of Year
Dr. Nannette Wenger of
Atlanta will be honored as
“Woman of the Year” at the
Jewish War Veterans Ladies
Auxiliaries’ Slst National
Convention taking place in
Chicago, July 30 thru Aug. 6,
1978.
Dr. Wenger, director of the
cardiac clinic at Grady
Memorial Hospital, is the first
woman president of the
Georgia Heart Association and
is a professor of medicine at the
Emory University School of
Medicine. She is a board
member of the Atlanta Jewish
Community Center, past
president of the Atlanta Bureau
of Jewish Education, and is
actively involved in Hadassah,
having lectured at Hadassah
'Hospital in Israel.
Members of the Ladies chairman; Eleanor Schwartz,
Auxiliary of the Mack Frankel historian; Jeanette Abgott,
Post #112 attending the member of the National
convention will include: Rose Executive Committee; and
Steine, president; Ida Solomon, Margaret Citrenbaum, member
liaison officer and leadership at large.

Edward and Gertrude Krick
have been selected as honorees of
the Hebrew Academy Dinner of
Honor to be held on September 24
at the Peachtree Plaza Hotel.
Dr. Jean Gabler, dinner
chairperson, said, “Edward and
Gertrude Krick are tireless and
devoted workers on behalf of
Jewish education and the
community."
Besides his work for the Hebrew
Academy, Edward Krick has also
served in leadership positions in
the Atlanta Jewish Welfare
Federation, Shearith Israel
Synagogue, and the Atlanta
Jewish Community Center.
Gertrude Krick has been
associated with the Hebrew
Academy for over 20 years as
both teacher and assistant
principal. She is also active in
Pioneer Women—Golda Meir
Chapter and Shearith Israel
Synagogue. She is a past president
of Shearith Israel Sisterhood.
Chairpersons assisting Dr.
Gabler are Neal Busch, ad book
committee; Bootsie Siegel,
arrangements committee; Scott
Kaplan, program committee; Mr.
and Mrs. David Eisenberg, host
committee; Murray Siegal,
treasurer; and Jan Tenenbaum,

AJCC
The AJCC is now accepting
registration for the second summer
session of its hand building pottery
course which began July 20.
Available for adults and teens, the
class runs for eight weeks and is
held every Thursday from 10 a.m.
til 12 noon.
The class fee includes
instruction and all supplies for the
eight-week session.
Registration information is
available by calling the AJCC,

signing up at the front desk.
Marcia Sternberg will be
installed first president of Dor
Chai Hadassah, formerly Young
Career Women Hadassah, at a
dinner at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 25,
at the Tempo 2000 Clubhouse.
Miss Sternberg and other
officers will be installed by the new
president’s mother, Mrs. Edward
Sternberg, president of the
Southeastern Region of Hadassah.

Lenox ORT will hold its July
meeting at Sears Buckhead
Community Room, Tuesday, July
25 at 12 noon.

Workmen’s Circle
Workmen’s Circle will hold a
covered-dish picnic meeting at 5
p.m. on Sunday, July 23, at Bagley
Park, off Pharr Road between
Peachtree and Piedmont.
Bring your own food, plus
beverage.
Delegates to the Labor Day
Convention in Miami will be
elected, and there will be a report
of the National Convention.

The Atlanta North Branch of
the National Council of Jewish
Women will hold a Pack A Picnic
Party on Saturday, July 29 at 8
p.m., at the Willow Creek
Apartment Clubhouse, Abernathy
Road, Sandy Springs.
Picnickers are expected to bring
a food contribution.
Members and non-members can

Peachtree ORT
Peachtree ORT will hold its
Summer Swizzle on Wednesday,
July 26, at 8 p.m., at the home of

The meeting will welcome the
general membership and all new
and interested members to the
Peachtree chapter.
New officers for 1978-79 are: Jill

Soviet Jewry
Awareness Day
Synagogues and Jewish
organizations in the Atlanta area
will join together to participate in
a “Soviet Jewry Awareness Day”
at Beth Jacob Synagogue on
Sunday, August 6, at 8 p.m.
The evening will include a panel
discussion by recent Soviet
immigrants, a movie, and a long
distance call to a Russian
dissident. Congressman Wyche
Fowler will be present.
Following the general
information session, the
participants will be able to take an
active part in the Soviet Jewish
Struggle through writing letters to
Russian Jewish activists,
telephoning Russian embassies to
protest their violation of human
rights, and reading pamphlets as
well as speaking personally to new
immigrants in the Atlanta
community.

Chattahoochee ORT is
sponsoring a Children’s Film

City of Hope
The City of Hope Medical and
Research Center will receive
nationwide publicity on an
upcoming segment of the daytime
version of ABC-TVs “Family
Feud Show” hosted by comedian
Richard Dawson.
Viewers can check local listings
for exact time of the pre-taped
show.
The City of Hope’s research
assistant Gary Whiting will discuss
the medical center with Dawson.

Vicki Youngelson was installed
president of Cobb Branch of the
National Council of Jewish
Women at a recent brunch
meeting.
Other board members for 1978-

secretary; Charmian Weber,
adviser; Nancy Roth, special

Delta Air Lines, will serve as
general chairman for the 50th
anniversary Brotherhood
Dinner of the National Conference
of Christians and Jews, to be held
at 7:30 p.m., Monday, September
19, at the Colony Square Hotel.
The recipient of this year’s
award, yet to be announced, will be
honored for leadership in the field
of human relations.
Proceeds from the event will be
used to finance the NCCTs local
activities in building better
relationships among people of all
religions, races and nationalities.

Bowlers plan expansion
Howard Fagin has been
named president of the
expanded Gate City Men’s
Bowling League which may
become the Greater Atlanta
B’nai B’rith league by the time
competition gets underway
in September.
Other new league officers are
Bernie Shapiro, vice president;
Warren Zindler, secretary; and
Frank Golder, treasurer.
Gate City Grand Champ
ions, led by captain Barry Silver
included Herb Adelman, Ben
Cavalier and Bob Levin.
Alan Zaner won the trophy
for high average while Barry
Silver won the award for high
game. High handicap game
went to Arnold Schwartz and
high handicap series was
presented to Allen Marks.
Marshall Cohen received the
trophy for Most Individual
Points Won. Other winners
were Fagin, Sportsmanship
Award; Richard Floerabeim,
most improved average; and
Mike Turkat, Rookie of the
Year.
Atlanta Lodge has been
invited to participate in the
Gate City league this fall.
Sponsors are being sought to
help defray the cost of new team
shirts as part of the expanded
league.
The league will bowl at the
Express Lanes on Monday
nights, beginning at 8:40 p.m.
Anyone who is a member of
Gate City or one of the other
lodges can participate.
