i’fith Maine Volunteers, four hundred men,
under the command of Col. Geo. Nye, de*
parted for Georgetown, South Carolina.
Swekat.nam —This popular
place of amusement is crowded nightly. A
succession of standard dramas is being given
by the most powerful company that has as
yet made its appearance under the present
management. Let no one fail to notice the
bill for this evening.
Is Luck Ainojjg the passengers by the
steamer Comet last evening, from Augusta,
were Mr. Geo. Adlard, of New York, and
three Misses Daniel, of Covington, Georgia.
The latter have had left them by the death
of a relative in Europe, a large fortune, and
they are en route for their new home across
the Atlantic. Mr, Adlard is the Agent of
the Executors, and is faithfully executing his
trust.
Mr. l3A.cc Scott of Macon Ga. — The
Georgia Delegation at Washington have rec
ommended to the President and the Cabinet
this gentleman for appointment as Provi
sional Governor of the “Empire State.” Mr.
Scott is well known in this country and in
Europe as a successful Banker and Financier.
At the present time he is President of the
Bank of Middle Georgia and President of
Macon & Western Rail Road. When the
universal suspension of specie payments oc
curred a short time before the war, the Bank
of Middle'Georgia under the Presidency of
Mr. Scott promptly paid specie whenever
their bills were presented. His appointment
will be undoubtedly met with tile hearty
approval of the people of Georgia.
A Grand Picnic.— For years it has been
the custom of the people of Savannah, old
and young, to enjoy themselves in pleasure
parties away from the busy hum of the city,
in some suitable place, either in the country
or at the seaboard. Several such parties have
been given this season, but none on the ex
tensive scale of that at which* the friends of
Mi James Doyle, merchant of tbi9 city, were
entertained by him on yesterday at his coun
try seat, nine miles from the city, at the Isle
of Hope. The guests of Mr. Doyle en-*
joyed themselves in dancing, racing etc.,
until after sunset, and all who had the
good fortune to attend were highly pleased.
The music was excellent, being furnished
'by the Savannah cily orchestra. An excel
lent dinner was served up, and the tables
groaned under the delicacies of the season.

difficult to get, together with the limited amount of
business doing, in order to meet contingent expenses

Ist Each customer will receive any required num
ber of fall bottles, for which they are expected to be
responsible.
2d. When a further supply is desired, they will re
ceive only as many full bottles as they return of empty
ones.
3d. My terms af e cash on delivery of goods. By
adopting this system, misunderstandings are avoided,
and I think i* will enable me in a short time to furnish
goods in my line at a ipuch less rate than I am at pres
ent compelled to charge to meet unnecessary losses—
thus making this system of mutual benefit,
