The Loan of tiik Confederate States.—
We are pleased to learn that so great has been
the demand for the $5,000,001) loan offered
yesterday, that the President has concluded
offer the whole $16,000,000 at once.—■
Charleston alone took two of the first five mil
lion offered, and capitalists in New Orleans
asked for at least as much as five million them
selves. This is a good indication. Our peo
ple have a confidence in the stability of oor
igoroua little Republic which the arbitration
of the sword cannot shake We have not aa
yet learned how much of the authorised loan
has been taken in this city. The books will
still be kept open at the Central Bank to-day.
Capitalists cun now have an opportunity to
show the faith that ie in them.—Montgomery
Advertiser.
Better Tuan Guano.—Almost without ex
ception, no matter where the abolition forces
ay land upon our coast, there is hut a poor
sterile, cr no soil at all—a mere sandy barren.
Here the fevers ineident to our elimete will
give Southern feelings to Northern men, in the
approaching hot months, and their carcaseade-
cuntpoaed, aud plowed into the sandy barrens,
will add very materially to the intrinsic value
of such real estate. Let them come! Our
troops are acolimated. Northern men will die
of sheer exposure to our climate, hurried on
by the rigors of oamp life. Our climate will
kill five abolitionists where our bullets kill
one. Ain’t it nice ? It will be belter than gua
no, for the production of Cotton.—Montgomery
Moil.
Death of Mrs. CnuRcn.—We are sincerely
grieved to record the death, on Monday night
last, of this estimable lady, wife of Kev. Dr.
Church, ex President of Pranklih College. In
a large eircla of friends and kinspeople the
•ad news will oauae a thrill of heartfelt sor-
w.
The funeral will be preached this morning,
(Wednesday,) in the Presbyterian Church, at
half past IU o’clock.—Athens Manner.
Promoted.—We learn that Lieut. A. A.
Flanklin Hill, of the let Reg’l Georgia Army,
has been promoted to a Captaincy in the same
regiment. We beg to tender him our cordial
congratulations upon the event, and to wish
him many more "steps” of a similar charac
ter.—Athens Danner.
•tar Simon Cameron telegraphed Governor
Harris yesterday that a call has been soot to
bitu for two regiment* of troops to help put
the Confederal• States through a course of
sprouts. The Governor, wo learn, is juet now
in Arkansas, and it is not known poeitively
what his answer will be, but it is not difficult
to guess.—Nashville Patriot.
John Bbll for Srcission.—Yesterday was
tbe day on which John Bell was to have made
a secession speech in Nashville, so Gen. Pil
low stated to a friend of ours on Tuesday last,
on the train between Montgomery and Opelika.
If euch be the fact, our hope that Tenoessee
will soon terminate her oonnection with the
Northern Uaion, will be muoh enlivened.—
Columbus Times.
Tut Fleet Goer to Persaoola.—It b
thought tho whole of tho fleet which have been
outside of tho Charloetoa bar for the loot three
or foor dsye, hove geao to Peaeacob bay la
aid Mejor Tower, the successor of Sbtnmer,
in his attempt to resist the capture of Pickens.
There are other rumors ia oonnection with the
fleet, which we oannot trace to authenticity.
