TgE LARGEST CIRCULATION.
AUGUSTA, OA.i
SATURDAY MOKNINU..:...Mareh 10, 1860
Mrs. Davis.—From the Macon (Ga.)
Ttltgrapk, wo loam Ibat this estimable lady
4:as boon for several days sojourning in that
city, the guest of Mrs. Howell Cobb ; but
baa left, having for the first time since
_tbe elose of tbo war, received permission to
leave the State of Georgia, where she has
been living all the whi'e, notwithstanding
the many reports that she and her family
were la Canada. But it is her intention to
reside in Canada hereafter.
She was treated with great distinction by
the citisens of Macon, and won all hearts
by her lpvely and courteous deportment and
dignified bearing under misfortune. And
wherever she may go, the good wishes of
those who made her acquaintance in Macon
Till go with her.
General Wade Hampton was at the
Battle House in Mobile a few days ago. The
Times says the General is in excellent health
and spirits, and says that bis freedmen are
at work planting, and “doing as well as
could be expected,’’ to coin an old phrase
but that if at any time the freedmeu break
their contracts, there is no redress on the
part of the p'anter. This should be remedied
at once. The General will only remain a
day or two.
