r .altera Pap.ni ll.pliininn to Doom Oof. Hill for
Preulrirnt.
f -r- -
New York, November 7.—Governor
Hills Beems to be loomimi up, notonly as a
possible, but, ns a probable presidential
candidate on the next democratic ticket.
The Brooklyn Eagle hns this suggestive
editorial: “How would Governor Hill do
tor president? He seems to be the only
democrat who hns taken increased prestige
out of the elections. Morrison is shelved.
Carlisle is like .Job’s friend, who ‘escaped
by the skin of his teeth.’ Mr. Cleveland
has found that civil service reform is not
an enthusing recourse. The democratic
candidate in the Toledo district is Hurd
and not seen. The democrats have shown
that they do not relish nn ad
ministration which apologises for
kicking out republicans. The labor voters
are for Hill, and agninst Cleveland, justly
.ft unjustly. The Irish can only be held by
Hill tram being tempted away to Blaine.
How would Hill do? One tiling is certain:
The democrats mean to nominate some
man who pleases them, not some man
whose success will prove less than a demo
cratic victory and not quite a republican
defeat. How would Hill do? But Presi
dent Cleveland has his weather eye wide
epen. He is quick to perceive the cloud
on the horizon no bigger than a man’s
hand. Yesterday he appointed ex-Hurro-
gatc Gideon J. Tucker, chairman ol the
New York laboring men’s law committee,
* government commissioner of the Oregon
and California railroad company. There
are occasions when' large bodies don’t
move slowly.”

The World lias the following editorial on
the sumo line : “The Son I, is some sug
gestive inquiries as to the pr ibuble elle it
upon the next presidential election, and
particularly upon Mr. Blaine as the prob
able republican candidate, of n third party
labor movement with Henry George as its
ieader. We do not think it at all probable
that the labor organizations will scatter
their energies in the air in the next presi
dential canvass. They will bo much more
likely to use their strength to oromotc the
election of a candidate most favorable to
their interests. And ifthc next democratic
candidate is to he elected with a
view to getting the labor oto in the piv
otal Empire State, as the last one was se
lected with a view of getting the inde-
S ancient Republicans, the name of David
. Hill will naturally suggest itself. We
•ay this with no intention of ommitting
■ourselves to Gov. Hill’s candidacy if ho
■hall bo a candidate, hutbecamethisseems
to us clearly the inevitable logic of events
If they shall turn upon the labor vote. As
■gainst President Cleveland the adroit
manager from Maine might hope to secure
•von a much larger proportion of the for
eign and labor vote than he did iu 1884,
Against Gov. Hill he would ilnd the re
cruiting business very different up-hill

A RACE WAR IMMINENT.
The Colored I’ooplr of UusKolivlIlrSi-Btl Inroniltary
Kolos to a Number of Whites 'Alio are Trying
Marti to Plsrorer the Authors.
Louisville, Ky., November 7.—It is re
ported from Russellville, Logan couuty,
Vfaata bad state of feeling exists between
the whites and the colored people, which,
U is feared, may culminate in trouble. A
gentleman who came to thecity from there
yesterday brought intelligence of incen
diary actions on tho part ot col ored people.
Yesterday morning a number of people
found uuder their door ba lly written
notes of warning signed in
various manners, purporting to
come from committees of colored
people. These notes contained threats
against both the lives and property of the
porsons at whose homes and places of busi
ness they were left. Due of tun notes was
pushed under the front door of the resi
dence of Mrs. Rhea, mother of John
Rnou, who was defeated Tuesday in that,
thu third district, in his race for congress.
The note stated iliac the house would be
burned and several members of the family
murdered. At Hines & Bibb’s clothing
store a similar note was thrust under the
door, and numerous other liaises were
treated to like visitations.
This action on the part of the colored
people naturally created much indignation
«ud not a little excitement. A dill limit is
Suing prosoouf ed for thu per.) -traiors of
the outrages, and if they are identified
they will be promptly and vigorously dealt
with. In thu meantime the feeling is in
tense between the two races, and any sur
plus action on tho part of the colored
people is likely to precipitate trouble. Tho
strange part of tiie atlair is that there
seams to be no cause whatever lor the in
cendiary action of tho negroes. The two
races have always gotten along with re
markable smoothness in this quiet little
town, and the negroes have always been
well treated, and have shown their appre
ciation by living for the most part iu a
quiet citizenship.
The only cause for the r ice feeling that
can be conjectured is an informal boycott
put upon the barbershop of Barney Frazer
and James Offutt, colored, byja number of
the gentlemen who were friends of Mr.
Rhea. There is one other shaving shop
in.the town and it is conducted by a white
man named Dye. The colored barbers,
together with the colored voters, strongly
supported Dr. W. Godfrey Hunter, who
defeated Air. Rhea. The democratic
patrons of the shop showed their disap
proval of this by removing t In ir mugs
aud brushes from Frazer & Offut ’ ’s shop
to that of Dye, to whom they sa.d they
would henceforth give their patronage.
The discovery and introduction of Moxie
Nerve Food lias proved a blessing to thou
sands of people suffering from nervous
affections. They have found immediate
relief, and recommend it to their friends
as tlie most reliable preparation for the
cure of nervousness, sleeplessness, end that
tired, worn out feeling. Try Moxie ; it's
only 50 cents a bottle.

The reduction of internal revenue and
the taking off of reveune stamps from Pro
prietary Medicines, no doubt has largely
benefited the consumers,as well as relieving
the burden of home manufacturer*. Es
pecially is this the case with Green’s Au
gust Flower and Bosehee’s German Syrup,
as the reduction of thirty-six cents per
dozen, has been added to increase t he size
of tho bottles containing these remedies,
thereby giving one-fifth more medicine in
the 75 cents size. The August Flower for
Dyspepsia and Liver Complaint, and the
German Syrup for Cough and Laii| trou
bles, have perhaps, the largest sale of any
medicines in the world. The advantage of
increased size of the bottles will lie greatly
appreciated by the sick and aihieted, in

water and several good springs on the plantation,
