- AND NOW WHEREAS, in the order of events, national and international, even worldwide, it
50 stands that the United States of America is posed as the most favored Nation on Earth in peace
and in commerce, the English Pound Sterling having given way to the American Dollar: other na
tions of the earth looking on us in wonderment, astonished that we are preserved uninterrupted in
the ,purg;"\t of happiness and good-will toward all Ppeople, and 2
W, ‘f REAS THE SOUTH, once more, after a year of strenuous and unusual struggling, is
emerging from the shock of sudden depression resulting from the declaration of war by the great
nations beyond the sea, and our people feel a spirit of good cheer and thankfulness for this kind
turn of affairs, and §
WHEREAS, Fitzgerald and Ben Hill county have especial eause to rejoice over the wa‘ve of
returning prosperity, and ‘ , i |
WHEREAS, other towns and communities are giving expression of better spirits and good cheer
by Proclaiming a short season of outward manifestations of this good-will, good cheer, and thank
fulness, and ¥ e
. WHEREAS AND SO ON, now I, Drew W. Raulk, honored by the people of the best young city
in the South in being permitted by their sufl’rq‘ e to be their Mayor, and desiring that our city may
have oppontunitv, heartily and lustily to enter Into a spirit of the times, along with other of our most

- DO HEREBY PORCLAIM a short season k7O be observed in and by the people of this city as a
Dress Up Week, beginning on the 13th day and ending on the 20th day of the present month of Oct
ober, in which season every citizen, private and public, and every firm, company, corporation, muni
cipal and other; €very clvic organization, every society, fraternal and other, all shall be expected to
array themselves in their best and most presentable attire; that parks, streets, alleys, public build
ings, private homes and all other may both have a cleaning and be made inviting.
ESPECIALLY, would it be appropriate to extend the most cordial solicitations of the pleasure
of visits to our homes and city by those whom we love, so that we may not be selfish of our enjoy--
ment of this occassion of festive celebration.
AND I DO ENJOIN UPON ALL OUR PEOPLE the importance of a revival of That Broth
erly Feeling and Sympathy by and between each and every member of our community, without
which Brotherliness and Sympathy life is less happy. |
AND I DO FURTHER REQUEST the papers of our splendid city to assist in the arousing
of a very keen appreciation of the many advantages to come to the individual and to the city
severally, socially, morally, intellectually and commercially, by virture of our people entering
happily into an orderly, decent and respectful observance of such an unusaal season of joy.
AND I DO REQUEST THE CO-OPERATION of all toward making this the most happy
period which I have Proclalmed_, as I believe, in the ‘interest of all who love our city and our
county and feel grateful for this coming prosperity. .

The Editor of this paper heartily indorses his action. Let everybody in Fitzgerald and wherever this issue goes, resolve to
make the week of October 13th to October 20th the brightest week they’ve spent this year. Farmers, Merchants, Mechanics, Law
yers and Business Men in every walk of life will heartily indorse the action of our enterprising mayor in proclaiming this Dress.Up
Week for Fitzgerald.
. Read the proclamation, then read it over again; catch the bright, uplifting idea of it. Let it sink in, then, resolve to freshen
up in your entirety. Brush away the cobwebs of pessimism, think of how gloriously bright the prospects are, as compared with a few
months ago, let a little optomism in: Surely no people have greater cause for being thankful and optomistic than Americans, and no
portion of America more than our own dearly loved Dixieland, so, Cleanup, DRESS UP, brighten up all around. “The apparel -

will help YOU as well as the fellow you buy it from. Dress up, vourself and your family, you cant afford to be little when Gods bless.

and sincerely indorses in full your Proclamation and we predict that all of the good citizens of Fitzderald will enter heartily into the spirit of it and
make Dress Up\ week a real live occasion for their town and section. ;
