New Orleans. Sept. 19.—The Times Dem

ungracious affair. Foreign talent, stirred
by the crop deterioration reports sent from
America, did the JogjrnJ thing and bought
contracts. The ela-Atlnntle talent, cove

sold the stuff on the hard spot created
by sundry bullish cablegrams. The result

probably be the growth of suspicion abroad
which mav he reflected there In less buoy

seriously underestimated, there is no rea

continue to pursue the even tenor of It*

to supply be more fully determined. Clear
ly enough, the American public la lu no
mood to I most tho fortunes of the staple
where good money Is the stake. Hence,
the tactics of the professional, whose
only opponent now Is some brother profes
sional of the opposite persuasion, are ex-
R lalnable on the theory of the survival of

worth the candle. Thus far. spot sellers
have found spot buyers, eager enough, and
discounting an early alteration In current
attitude In this respect may develop fresh
complications, neither the farmer nor the

DAILY COTTON LETTER
New York, Kept. 19.-Agnln Liverpool tried
to help the bulls out nnd fntled to respond
fully to the decline In onr market yester
day, but the bulla failed to take advantage
of the opportunity, hence, prices opened off
2 to 4 points. The public continues 4o play
the waiting game, and In the menntlmo the
ring traders amuse themselves b* playing
ping pong with She market, one day bulls,
the next bears. Crop reports continue to
come In very innch mixed, some claiming
that prospects have never been better anil
others that they sre very poor. There Is
nn doubt but thnt conditions have been de
teriorating rnpldly for the last three weeks,
n« Is nsunl for s wet season ns we havo
had, and by the October report of the gov
ernment we expect to see a substantial fall
ing off In the figures. Wo do not believe In
the bum|»er erop estimates that have lieen
floating around, and think we will do well
to get n.750,000, which will hardly lie suf
ficient to supply the demand In view of the
small surplus carried over. Also with the
lateness of the crop, we think present
prices too low to hold.
