Fourth book in Georgia Gold Series released
This September, the pop
ular Georgia Gold Series
reaches its capstone with
the release of “Bright as
Gold.” The latest and final
installment in the set of four
historical romances linking
antebellum Georgia’s coast
and mountains brings the
reader up to the reconstruc
tion period and is now avail
able at The Bookstand of
Northeast Georgia at Banks
Crossing.
Author, former Jackson
County resident, Denise
Weimer, of Watkinsville, was
inspired to write the series
during the 10 years she
lived in Habersham County.
During that time well-known
regional historian and art
ist John Kollock offered his
family letters and diaries to
aid her research as she craft
ed a story spanning from the
Farm Bureau
to offer
scholarships
Georgia Farm Bureau will
award a total of $14,250 in
scholarships to 10 high school
seniors who plan to pursue a
college degree in agriculture,
family and consumer scienc
es or a related field, Albert
Ward, Banks County Farm
Bureau president, recently
announced.
The top three students will
each receive a scholarship of
$3,000. The remaining seven
students will each receive a
$750 scholarship.
Applicants must plan to
enter a unit of the University
System of Georgia or Berry
College during the 2015-16
academic year to pursue an
undergraduate degree in agri
cultural and environmental
sciences, family and consum
er sciences or a related agri
cultural field. All applications
must be submitted by Friday,
Feb. 6,2015.
“I would like to encourage
all high school seniors in our
county who are planning to
pursue a degree in agricultural
and environmental sciences,
family and consumer scienc
es or a related agricultural field
to consider applying for the
Farm Bureau Scholarship,”
said Ward. “Both farmers
and consumers depend on
many jobs from the seed
salesman providing us with
dependable seed to the food
scientist developing new
food products with what we
grow. Agriculture has many
opportunities for young peo
ple. We want them to think
about agriculture as they are
thinking about their future.”
Contact the Banks County
Farm Bureau office at 706-677-
2215 for more information
about the scholarship pro
gram or to obtain an applica
tion. You may also download
a copy of the application by

programs/aic.
The application includes a
list of all the University System
of Georgia Institutions stu
dents may attend to qualify for
the scholarship and examples
of qualifying majors. All schol
arship applications must be
approved and signed by the
Farm Bureau president of the
county in which the applicant
resides or attends high school.
“Farm Bureau welcomes
the opportunity to assist our
state’s future agriculture lead
ers in continuing their edu
cation,” said Ann Gordon,
Banks County Farm Bureau
Women’s Committee chair
man.
The scholarship recipients
will be announced in April
2015. The scholarships will
be distributed in the summer
of 2015 after the recipients
provide confirmation of their
enrollment in a college/uni
versity and their major area
of study.
The Georgia Farm Bureau
Mutual Insurance Company
and the GFB Women’s
Leadership Committee spon
sor the scholarship program.
Georgia gold rush to recon
struction. Weimer wanted
to show how the lives of
“the summer people,” like
Kollock’s ancestors, coast
al tycoons who built fanci
ful mountain retreats near
Clarkesville, mingled with
those of the hardy pioneers
and Cherokee Indians.
Kollock’s original prints
are on the covers of all the
books in the series.
In “Bright as Gold,” the
Randalls and Rousseaus
rebuild their lives follow
ing the War Between the
States. Becoming the bride
of former blockade-runner
,Jack Randall is challeng
ing for a half-Cherokee girl
from the mountains, but
Mahala is determined to
not only make a place in
old Savannah... but bring
redemption to the Randall
name as well as the city’s
shattered society.
Meanwhile, battle-hard
ened Dylan Rousseau
returns to the family farm in
Habersham County, where
his inner wounds threaten
to crack him open as surely
as the drought-baked earth
he must learn to subdue.
And somehow he must find
a way past his brother’s
memory into the heart of
Carolyn, the woman he
has always loved. Weaving
between them comes the
secret yet deadly lure of lost
Confederate gold.
