Perry Hospital will celebrate 25th anniversary on April 2
Perry Hospital opened its doors
25 years ago, on April 2,1969 and
has been committed to keeping pace
with the people's needs and with
healthcare advances ever since.
In 1969, Perry Hospital had
about 30 employees and four
doctors on the Medical Staff. The
hospital now boasts a staff of over
200 employees and 15 doctors,
encompassing a full range of
medical specialties. Perry Hospital
has expert physicians in the area of
family practice, internal medicine,
surgery, pediatrics, radiology,
orthopedic surgery, podiatry and
obstetrics. Twelve specialties are
now represented and Perry Hospital
continues to attract new physicians.
Perry Hospital received its first
ever accreditation by the Joint
Commission of Accreditation of
Hospitals in 1974 and has
continued to be accredited by the
Commission every three years.
The hospital's list of recognitions
also includes accreditation of its
Mammographic Imaging Services
by the American College of
Radiology. In order to receive this
prestigious distinction, Perry
Hospital had to meet numerous
requirements, including a peer
review, evaluation of the facility's
staff qualifications, equipment,
quality control and quality assurance
programs.

Comm. Ryles says:
'Change your dock,
and your batteries.'
Insurance and Fire
Commissioner Tim Ryles urges
Georgians to change the batteries in
their smoke detectors at the same
time they change their clocks from
standard time this weekend.
In conjunction with the "Change
Your Clock, Change Your Battery"
national fire safety program.
Commissioner Ryles says the
annual return to daylight savings
time in the spring is an excellent
time to make sure smoke detectors
are functioning properly.
"We've had 49 fire deaths in
Georgia since Jan. 1. Simple
maintenance of your smoke
detector, like changing the battery
on a regular basis and removing
dust, is the best way to protect your
family and property from fire. And
while fire safety is on your mind,
plan and rehearse an escape route
your family can use in case of a
fire."
Commissioner Ryles also noted
that in most of the fire deaths thus
far, no working smoke detector was
found in the home.
Daylight savings time begins
this Sunday, April 3 at 2 a.m.
Clocks should be set ahead one
hour when you go to bed Saturday
night.
In 1983 and again in 1989, Perry
Hospital was expanded and
renovated, adding 10,500 square feet
and the latest life-saving
technologies in emergency medicine
and intensive care. Beginning in
1987 Perry Hospital has had a
doctor trained in emergency room
procedures available 24 hours a day.
Formerly, a doctor was on call for
emergency cases after normal
business hours.
Other programs include the 1992
addition of new physical therapy
and respiratory care units. In 1994
Perry Hospital anticipates breaking
ground on a state-of-the-art facility
that will house outpatient surgery,
surgery and labor and delivery.
To further enhance the
availability of health education and
the community's knowledge of
health related issues, Perry Hospital
has implemented a Community
Education Program called EduCare.
Beth Jones, RN, was hired in 1993
as the Director of EduCare. The
program, which is the first of its
kind in Perry Hospital's history,
addresses the health and wellness
issues of individuals and
organizations throughout Middle
Georgia. EduCare offers classes on
numerous health concerns facing
the community and visits area
schools and organizations to discuss
health education issues.
