Newspaper Page TextPage 2A Saturday, May 14,1994 “Houston Times-Journal Mabel Colley Hayes WARNER ROBINS-Mabel Colley Hayes of Warner Robins, died Wednesday, May 11, 1994 at a local nursing home after an extended illness. Bom in Dickerson County, Va., she was the daughter of the late Noah and Mary Colley and was a retired school teacher having worked in Virginia, Atlanta, and the Houston County school system for 31 years. She retired from the Houston County school system, was a graduate of the Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville, a member of the NEA, GAE, past president of Retired Teachers Association of Houston County, and was a charter member of AAUW. Mrs. Hayes was a member of the First United Methodist Church, a member of the Ladies Bible Sunday School Class and was very active in the UMW. Survivors: husband, Issac "Red" Hayes of Perry; children, Mary Lynn Dukes of Perry and Eh-. Julian N. Hayes of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; sister, Gladys Horton of Franklin, Tenn.; sister-in-law, Mrs. Fairy Holland of Pineview; nephew, George T. Anderson of Williamsburg, Va., and a number of nieces and nephews. Services: Graveside services were held Thursday, May 12, 1994 in the Magnolia Park Cemetery at 11 a.m. The Rev. James E. Duke officiated. The family can be contacted at the residence of 150 Langston Road, Perry. Contributions can be made to The First United Methodist Church Education Scholarship Funnd, 205 North Davis Drive, Warner Robins, or to the American Association of University Women Scholarship Fund. Christopher-Smith Funeral Home had charge of arrangements. Thomas Gordon Slappey Jr. Thomas Gordon Slappey, Jr., 90, of 2500 Hwy 41 N, died Tuesday, May 10, 1994 at the Church Home for the Aged in Fort Valley. Bom in Lake Charles, Louisiana, he was the son of the late Thomas and Fannie Eliza (Smith) Slappey. He was a retired painting superintendent, and has resided in Georgia since 1984. Thomas was a member of The Christ’s Sanctified Holy Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Cecelia Victoria Hardy Slappey. Survivors: children, Fannie Cecelia Slappey of Decatur and Dorothy S. Courtney of Perry; sisters and brother, Mildred S. Howard of Norfolk, Va., Ella Mae S. Thomas of Jacksonville, Fla. and Roy Slappey of Perry; and several nieces and nephews. Services: Were held Thursday, May 12, 1994 in the Christ's Sanctified Holy Church at 2 p.m. The Revs. Tom Gray and B. E. Simons officiated. Burial took place in the church cemetery. Watson-Hunt Funeral Home in Perry had charge of arrangements. Authority announces new changes at WR hospital A. Hal Cotton, Chairman of the Hospital Authority of Houston County announced today that Houston Healthcare Complex will make some organizational changes following the resignation of Executive Director, Karl Weinmeister earler this month. The Hospital Authority plans to fill the administrator's position at Houston Medical Center previously held by Karl Weinmeister and another newly created position. This position will be as Chief Executive Officer of Houston Healthcare Complex. The candidate for this position must be experienced in Managed Care, an important aspect of healthcare reform, as well as a skilled administrator with a medical background. The administrator's position at Perry Hospital will be unaffected by this change. Two personnel search firms have been contracted with to help seek out candidates. They are Spencer Stuart of Atlanta and Physician Management Center of Tampa, Fla. Plans are for the selection process to begin as soon as possible. Onsite visits by these firms and interviews with hospital personnel are planned. City trash pick-up changes announced Due to a recent restraining order issued by the state Environmental Protection Division, the City of Perry can no longer place some items in the Toomer Road Landfill that have been allowed in the past. Because of this, the city is ask ing citizens to immediately start separating materials that are placed beside the street for pick-up. Congressional candidate Chambliss speaks in Perry By BRIGETTE LOUDERMILK Editor Saxby Chambliss, a Republican running for the Bth Congressional District, told Perryans this week that his top priority is ensuring that Robins Air Force Base as well as other military bases in the district remain open. "Not only do I realize the impact to the area (RAFB serves), but also its strategic defense of this coun try," Chambliss said. Around 20 individuals were in vited to a breakfast at the New Perry Hotel Tuesday, May 10 to hear Chambliss speak and ask ques tions. Those attending the breakfast were Mayor James Worrall, Perry City Councilmen Charles Lewis and Buddy Roper, Houston County Commission Chairman Sherrill Stafford, County Commissioner Archie Thompson, officials from local businesses and other commu nity leaders. Chambliss also said he plans to support agriculture because he "understands the burden placed upon farmers." He discussed health care, saying he was opposed to the federal gov ernment becoming any more in volved in the health care due to the disasters of Medicaid, Medicare and VA hospitals. He did say that J. Roy Rowland, the current Bth district congress man, has the best health care bill proposed and that is the bill he will endorse. Joe Kusar, who heads up Tolleson’s treated lumber operations, has been named President of the new entity by Rusty Wood, President of Tolleson Lumber Company. Wood says the new company has already opened two new offices. Their Greesboro, N.C. office has three veteran lumber traders who purchase and sell many forest products that Tolleson does not manufacture. RAFB memorial service will honor police officers May 15 In honor of law enforcement officers, with particular emphasis on those who have died in the line of duty, Robins Air Force Base's 653rd Security Police Squadron, with other base officials, will conduct a memorial service May 15. The service, scheduled for 3 p.m., will be held in front of the Warner Robins Air Logistics Center Headquarters Building (215) located on Page Road on base. In case of rain, the event will culminate at the base chapel.
